Why is the Consultation so important?

Just recently I’ve had a host of enquiries through various social media channels, wondering about different aspects of certain treatments – and what might be a recommended treatment pathway.

First of all let me say – keep them coming!!

It’s a joy to respond to such questions, I really enjoy this part of my job.

However, please do not be surprised when I share some basic advice, and then recommend that you come see me for a consultation appointment. Or of course – a virtual consultation.

It is incredibly difficult (if not impossible) to give specific advice to someone, when you have no information to work with in terms of overall health and wellbeing.

For example…

Struggling with your skin?

At the very minimum I want to discuss:

  • What’s your concern?
  • Where is it?
  • For how long?
  • Any known triggers?
  • Have you sought any advice previously?
  • Are you undergoing any medical treatment at present?
  • Do you have any long term conditions which may be linked?
  • Do you take any medication which may affect product/treatment choice?
  • Do you have any allergies?
  • Are there any hormonal influences?
  • Are there any lifestyle influences – eg diet/sleep/stress?
  • Are you pregnant or breastfeeding?
  • Do you currently receive any skincare treatments elsewhere?
  • What is your morning skincare routine?
  • What is your evening skincare routine?
  • What are you expectations of a new skincare routine/ treatment plan?
  • Individual factors such as time commitments and budget.

Wondering about a lip enhancement?

At the very minimum I want to discuss:

  • Have you had a lip procedure previously?
  • How long ago?
  • Do you know which product it was?
  • Did you suffer any side effects?
  • Are you undergoing any medical or dental treatment at present?
  • Do you have any long term conditions?
  • Do you take any medications?
  • Do you have any allergies?
  • Are you pregnant or breastfeeding?
  • What is your expectation of treatment? What results would you like to see?
  • How often you might return for maintenance treatments.
  • Are you aware of the risks and side effects of dermal filler treatments?
  • Pre- and post-procedure advice.
  • Which product I recommend and why.
  • What you can expect when you attend your appointment.
  • Is it the right treatment for you?

SO, you can see; it’s really not as simple as exchanging a few social media messages.

The consultation is really valuable and insightful. For both me and you.

I need to understand a number of things first and foremost, so I can advise and plan accordingly.

This might seem a little over the top to some, and that makes me sad.

It has become the norm for corners to be cut, things to be rushed, and a lack of care to be taken.

In my world of Medical Aesthetics, that doesn’t happen.

You will be assessed from a medical perspective; and all decisions will be based on you as an individual, in partnership with you – and using evidence-based information to inform your treatment plan.

And that begins at your Consultation.
